FT: Kidderminster Harriers 2-1 Worcester City

Worcester Editorial 21st Apr, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

LIVE updates from our man at Aggborough, Jonny Bonell, where Worcester City face landlords Kidderminster Harriers in the Worcestershire Senior Cup final.

The live update has now finished.

– Nti’s effort was denied right at the death but Kidderminster hung on to secure a 2-1 victory on the night at the Worcestershire Senior Cup for the 26th time in their history. Goals from Jared Hodkiss and Luke Maxwell gave the Conference Premier the win after a Sean Geddes effort had put City in front. Worcester once again showed they can compete with their higher league rivals and in no way disgraced themselves in tonight’s performance. But the trophy – last won by Worcester in 1997 – goes begging for another season. Thanks for following tonight.

FULL TIME: KIDDERMINSTER 2-1 WORCESTER CITY – KIDDERMINSTER WIN THE WORCESTERSHIRE SENIOR CUP

90+3min: Obeng bends an effort inches past the post as Harriers look for a third.

Four minutes added time.

90min: City pressing here but are finding it difficult to get past a resolute back line.

86min: Deeney takes aim from the edge of the box but is leaning back and fires it out the stadium.

85min: SUB: Weir replaced by Sousa in City’s final change. An attacking one.

Attendance: 1,029

84min: Obeng’s dangerous looking shot is well blocked behind for a corner. Comes to nothing.

More on goal: Neat one-two between Obeng and Hogkiss down the right sets up the substitute to fire past Veiga and potentially seal the cup. Geddes taken off for Dunkley for Worcester.

78min: GOAL: Kidderminster Harriers 2-1 Worcester City – Jared Hodkiss

76min: Few tasty challenged flying in now as Byrne goes crunching in on Elvins.

73min: Great ball in from Deeney but Symons opted to stretch his leg at it when going for the header may have been the better option.

72min: SUB: Final change for Harriers as Asante is replaced by the much-travelled Lee Hughes.

71min: Nti brings the ball over his shoulder and hits an ambitious half volley which flies over.

68min: City’s turn to press now as Geddes’ deep cross is headed behind by Hodgkiss. Corner cleared.

67min: Geddes’ resulting free-kick canons straight into the wall.

66min: Yellow card:  Hodkiss goes into the book for a rash challenge on Geddes. Khan is brought off for Smith in Worcester’s first change.

64min: SUB: Second change for Harriers as Reid is replaced by Wright.

60min: Kidderminster looking for a second here but the game has slowed from a frantic opening 10 minutes to the second half.

More on goal: The resulting corner was taken by Reid and Maxwell was on hand to slam home after a goalmouth scramble in the City box.

54min: GOAL: Kidderminster Harriers 1-1 Worcester City – Luke Maxwell

53min: Yellow card: Geddes goes into the book for refusing to move away from the ball at a free-kick. Reids dangerous free-kick parried behind by Veiga.

More on goal: It is another fabulous strike for Geddes to add to his growing tally as Nti does well down the right before pulling the ball back to the midfielder who shifts the ball onto his left foot and curls it beyond the reach of Singh into the far corner.

49min: GOAL: Kidderminster Harriers 0-1 Worcester City – Sean Geddes

48min: Green’s dangerous cross is flicked just wide of the far post by Reid. Good chance for Kidderminster.

46min: Yellow card: Weir gets an early yellow card in the second half for halting Reffell’s run on goal.

– Players are back out and the second half is underway.

– Both sides have had chances here, Worcester perhaps with the better as Nti skied early on following a mistake from Digie – who went on to be substituted after just 23 minutes. City have played some pleasing stuff on the eye but have yet to breach the Harriers’ back line. The only controversial moment was Reffell’s disallowed goal for Kidderminster. The linesman had flagged before the ball was in the back of the net but the Kidderminster bench were up in arms about the decision.

HALF TIME: KIDDERMINSTER HARRIERS 0-0 WORCESTER CITY

1 minute added time

43min: Yellow card: Maxwell goes into the book for a succession of fouls, the latest bringing down Symons.

42min: Half drawing to a close now as both sides struggle to break the other down.

37min: Slight lull in play but City keeping possession well in the Kidderminster half.

32min: Harriers have the ball in the back of the net through Raffell but the linesmans flag had already been raised. Looked a close call and Kidderminster bench not happy.

30min: Worcester appeal for a penalty as Nti goes down under a challenge from Hodgkiss but nothing is doing for the referee.

25min: Maxwell lucky to escape a caution for a nasty challenge on Elvins. Resulting free-kick sees Deeney’s deep free-kick met by Symons but Singh was equal to the header.

23min: SUB: Digie replaced by Hodgkiss for Kidderminster. No sign of an injury.

22min: Asante now next to have a pop but his effort is poor and flies well over the top.

21min: Green allowed to carry the ball into the Worcester half and encouraged to shoot but it is rash and flies wide of the goal.

19min: Deeney makes a good run down the left and squares for Nti who drags a soft shot wide of the goal.

17min: Nti with a good effort which was well saved by Singh after a strong run and pass by Elvins.

14min: Maxwell with a good opening for Harriers as Reid’s corner is cleared to him on the edge of the box but he slices the effort wide.

9min: Captain Byrne goes for an ambitious 25-yard curler and sees it fly just over the top.

8min: Real chance for Worcester as Digie fluffs his clearance but Nti is leaning back and scoops the effort over the top.

7min: Deeney’s weak header falls to Reffell but his shot is blocked by Khan and runs through to Veiga.

5min: Decent opening for Worcester as Geddes sprays the ball out wide for Symons, the striker runs in from the left but his cross evades everyone.

3min: City doing all the early pressing here, but Symons is flagged offside and Kidderminster clear their lines.

1min: Geddes has an ambitious early free-kick which is comfortably held by Singh.

1min: Kidderminster get this cup final underway kicking from left to right in their red tops and black shorts. City from right to left in their traditional blue and white.

There is a familiar face in the hosts starting XI as Jamie Grimes, who had a successful loan period with the Blue and Whites last year, lines up against some old team-mates.

– Here are the teams:

– Sun is shining here in Kidderminster tonight, but the pitch is not looking its best. It is the first time these two sides have met since their ground-share agreement kick-started.
