Lee Hughes signs for Worcester City

WORECSTER City have bolstered their attacking line with the signing of experienced striker Lee Hughes.

The 39-year-old, who has been on City’s radar for six months, has played more than 600 games in the Football League and has averaged better than a goal every three games.

Hughes joins from Ilkeston FC and will be no stranger to Aggborough, having scored 70 goals in 139 games for Kidderminster Harriers between 1994 and 1997 and then bagging another three in 13 during a short stint with them earlier this year.

The controversial figure, who was jailed for six years in 2004 for causing death by dangerous driving, can also count West Bromwich Albion, Coventry City, Oldham and Notts County on an impressive CV.

He will hope to provide the firepower alongside recent signing Ryan Rowe and on-loan Nottingham Forrest forward Nikolay Todorov.

Joint manager Carl Heeley said: “Lee has been on our radar for the past six months and we feel that it is blatantly obvious to all regular watchers of Worcester City that a main problem area is our threat up front.

“Younger players with potential are an important part of our squad but they will require experienced players around them to help them develop.

“Lee might be 39 but he is in unbelievable shape and loves playing the game, he is also a very bubbly character who will give everyone a huge life within the changing room.”
