Key striker Nti set to leave City

ONE OF Worcester City’s prized assets looks set to leave the Skrill Conference North side for pastures new.

Daniel Nti topped the goal-scoring charts for the Blue and Whites last season – pitching in with 16 goals in his debut season – but is currently on trial at Conference Premier side Wrexham.

Following an unsuccessful spell at local rivals Nuneaton Town, the 21-year-old has featured against an Everton XI and Hednesford Town for the Dragons.

Manager Carl Heeley said the lure of full-time football was attracting Nti, who recently finished his degree at Loughborough University.

When asked if he was confident of keeping the striker, Heeley said: “I honestly don’t know.

“Based on what he said to me a couple of weeks ago I’d say probably not, but nothing surprises me in this game, whether it’s positives or negatives, never say never in football so we’ll see what happens.”

City’s star man has been offered a new deal ahead of the new campaign, but his reluctance to play part-time football looks set to cut that short.

“Daniel wanted full-time football and he asked me to help him out,” Heeley added. “Between us we’ve got him a trial at Wrexham and he’s currently there but we’ll see what, if anything, develops.

“There’s some things that are out of our control and, without being difficult and awkward, we try and help lads to achieve what they want to achieve as well.

“We’ve looked after ourselves and we are due some compensation but I can’t affect where Daniel lives.

“Since he’s finished his degree at Loughborough and being Milton Keynes based, part-time football is a hell of a slog, whereas if you relocate and you’re full-time that’s a decision for him, but we’ll try our best with the lad.”

But the  City boss added he was looking to increase his striking options ahead of the new season so the club would not be left short.
