Jaba to join Georgia on tour to Pacific Islands

WARRIORS hooker Jaba Bregvadze has been named in Georgia’s squad ahead of the nation’s first ever tour of the Pacific Islands.

The powerhouse forward will fly with The Lelos to the Southern Hemisphere islands this month, where they will clash with Samoa on Saturday, June 11, Tonga on Saturday, June 18 and Fiji on Friday, June 24.

Bregvadze could come up against Warriors team-mate James Johnston in the Test against Samoa.

Georgia head coach Milton Haig has guided the nation since 2012, having overseen five European Nations Cup titles and completed the Grand Slam in four of them.

Haig said: “Obviously it’s a very important stage of our development. It’s historic for Georgian rugby because we’ve never been to the islands before, so we’re really excited.

“It’s going to be a very tough task to beat Samoa, Tonga and Fiji on their turf, but this is the kind of environment we need to be in to improve.

“We’ve got an experienced forward pack and backline and we’ve added a couple of young guys to blood them.

“When you look at this squad in general it’s very experienced as we know how hard this tour will be,” he added.
