Hogg: I'm proud of my players

“IT WAS always going to be a tight game but I’m disappointed with the outcome.”

Warriors head coach Carl Hogg summed up his frustration after his side’s 23-23 stalemate against Gloucester on Friday.

The former Melrose, Edinburgh and Scotland back row, who spent seven years as a coach at the Kingsholm outfit, insists the crucial red card decision turned the game on its head, but was proud of his players for holding their nerve to take two points from the close contest.

“I’m disappointed with the result. We weathered the storm in the first 20 minutes as Gloucester enjoyed a lot of possession and territory, but I think we turned that around and went into half time the better side,” said Hogg.

“The red card changed the outcome of the game. I was very proud of the endeavour and efforts of the players, but it’s difficult when you’re down to 14 men.

“Overall we were outstanding. We had a few injuries before the game and picked up a few knocks during the match, so to be able to sit in that arm-wrestle and compete for as long as we did made me very proud of the players.

“I’ve been involved with these derby games for ten to 12 years now either side of the touchline and it’s always been a very tight contest that has gone down to the wire. Friday wasn’t any different.

“The challenge moving forward is to be more accurate in certain areas of the field. We’ll regroup and dust ourselves down ahead of Bath on Saturday.”
