Heeley 'not surprised' as City sell out cup allocation

EXCITED Worcester City fans have snapped up their entire 2,200 allocation for the eagerly-anticipated FA Cup second round tie at Scunthorpe United.

The Blue and Whites make the long trip the Glanford Park on Sunday, December 7, but the club has already sold the original 1,600 tickets given to them, along with an additional 600 handed over by the Iron.

A further request for even more tickets for supporters who had missed out has since been rejected by the club, who have made the clash an all ticket affair.

More than 3,000 raucous City fans witnessed history in their 2-1 victory over Coventry City in the first round and despite facing a trip almost three times as long, manager Carl Heeley said he always believed they would take another large contingent.

“I am not surprised that we have sold out the tickets,” he said. “But I was a little bit surprised how quickly we sold them out.

“It will be brilliant. It is a nice little tight ground and should make for a really good atmosphere and it is certainly one we are looking forward to.

“The crowd is closer to the pitch (than the Coventry game) but that is more like we are used to, every week we play on tight grounds with the crowd close to us so that will be nothing that is unusual to us, we are used to that kind of thing.

“We are delighted to still be in the cup, we gave a real good account of ourselves at Coventry and we would like to do the same again. We will go there with the intention of giving a good account of ourselves and you never, never know what can happen.”

Victory would see Worcester scoop a further £27,000, plus additional funds for being selected on BBC’s FA Cup Football Focus special, adding to the near £90,000 they have already bagged for getting to this stage.

The game is a 2pm kick off.
