Haynes says City are on the rise

DEFENDER Kyle Haynes is confident his Worcester City side have ‘bright times’ ahead and labelled them the best club he has played at.

The 23-year-old signed for the Blue and Whites in January and was seen as a direct replacement for star defender George Williams, who left to join League One outfit Barnsley.

But Haynes, who started his career as a junior at Birmingham City before he moved to Cheltenham Town, has made the right back berth his own – having made 19 starts before the end of the campaign.

“There are bright things ahead for Worcester City,” he said. “We are definitely going places.

“I have been at a pro club before, but the way things are done here are very professional. Things are on time and nobody is late. It is probably the best club I have played at.

“I was at Stourbridge at the start of this season and people were saying Worcester were going to struggle but I have come here and there is a lot of talent.”

Haynes was burdened with the responsibility of filling the boots of the talented Williams, who gained a whole host of admirers during his stint with Worcester, but the youngster shrugged off any pressure of having to match the standards set by his predecessor.

“It doesn’t bother me in the slightest (having to fill Williams’ boots),” Haynes added. “I didn’t see much of him but I have heard he is a very good player.

“I have just tried to come in and play as well as I can for the club and myself and I feel I have done okay to be honest.”
