Full house as City target third round

WORCESTER City will be roared on by a sell-out home crowd as they aim to reach the FA Cup third round for the first time in more than 30 years with victory over Scunthorpe United tonight (Wednesday).

Backed by about 5,000 supporters, the Blue and Whites welcome Mark Robins’ side to Aggborough for their second round replay after a Daniel Nti strike snatched a 1-1 draw at Glanford Park on December 7.

It will be the first time since their move that City’s temporary home will be full and manager Carl Heeley believes a raucous following could make all the difference.

“It is a game we are all looking forward to and it is going to be incredibly tough, but we have done well so far and are well in the tie,” he said.

“It would be nice for all the players (to get a full ground), great for the supporters and will be key to us getting a positive result, it will show the capability of this club to fill a ground like this.

“We have to start better and have to keep the ball better than we did away at Scunthorpe and if we do that then I think we are capable of playing a lot better and capable of a positive result.”

Goalscoring hero Nti and defender Wayne Thomas are likely to shake off a virus and ankle injury respectively and return to the starting line-up.

Assistant manager Matt Gardiner said: “It is going to be difficult, they know a little bit more about us, they’ve sized us up but equally we know a bit more about them.

“What I am pleased for is to get a home game and a lot of fans. For me that’s a really big thing and also a big advantage is whoever wins the replay is at home as well.

“I think for the lads, playing in front of a full Aggborough will be a great experience.”

Defender George Williams added: “I have never seen Aggborough full so that will be a real boost because in both games (Coventry and Scunthorpe) the fans were fantastic.

“It was almost like having them as the home fans so at Aggborough I think it is going to be absolutely electric, the fans will be great and we are really looking forward to it.”

As of midday yesterday (Tuesday) Scunthorpe had sold 90 tickets from their 650 allocation.
