DIRECTOR of rugby Dean Ryan has warned the rest of the Aviva Premiership not to write Worcester Warriors off after they closed the gap on relegation rivals Newcastle Falcons
David Lemi struck twice while Chris Pennell and Agustin Creevy went over as Warriors produced a stunning fightback against Exeter Chiefs who clung on to win 38-33 on Saturday
Despite missing out on claiming only their second victory of the campaign, the result reduced Worcester’s gap on Falcons to seven points as their rivals suffered a 40-12 thrashing at London Irish
It means Warriors will need to take at least three points from their trips to in-form Bath on Saturday and leaders Saracens two weeks later and hope Newcastle pick up no points, to give themselves a chance of securing their safety on the final day of the season when they take on Gloucester at Sixways
But Ryan believes London Irish’s 22-13 victory at Saracens in February demonstrated anything was possible in the Premiership and he said his side would do all they can to avoid the drop
“Exeter was an opportunity where we would have liked to have got a win and we didn’t, but we have got three games left and we are not going away,” he said
“Let’s just see what happens after each game before people start writing us off
“I know two of our games are against Bath and Saracens but it did not worry London Irish when they won at Sarries, so funny things happen
“Let’s see if we can get at least two points and get something on the game back here because that will make a very interesting final day
“
