City's Gardiner approached over Harriers vacancy

CITY joint-boss Matt Gardiner could be on the verge of leaving the Blue and Whites to become Head of Coaching at Kidderminster Harriers.

Worcester City have given their current landlords’ permission to speak to Gardiner about the newly-created role following Harriers appointment of John Eustace as their new manager.

Harriers chairman Rod Brown, who managed Gardiner during his time as boss of the now defunct Bromsgrove Rovers, confirmed permission had been granted by City to approach the popular City boss.

“We’re currently in discussions with Matt about fulfilling the role as there’s little doubt that he’d be a huge asset to us.

“We’re grateful to Worcester for giving us permission to speak with Matt and are hopeful of being able to come to an agreement with him soon.”

“We always knew that John wouldn’t be able to do this job alone and that experience within the management team of the level we’d be playing at was crucial,” Rod added.

Gardiner joined City as assistant manager in July 2012 before being promoted to joint-manager alongside Carl Heeley at the start of this season.

In a statement, City said: “We have granted them that permission as we feel it is only right we give Matt the opportunity to see if it something that he would be interested in and fits with his future ambitions.

“In the meantime we have a vitally important game away at AFC Telford this coming Saturday so with that in mind Matt has been placed on temporary leave to allow us to fully focus on the task in hand without any distractions.

“Carl Heeley will take sole charge once again and will be assisted by current first team coach, John Snape until the end of the campaign.

“We will be making no further comment until after the conclusion of the season where the situation will be reassessed and further communication will follow thereafter,” the statement added.

Eustace has penned an initial one-year contract with the club that will see him in the hot-seat for the 2016/2017, most likely in the National League North alongside Worcester City.
