City hoping to sweep Pilgrims aside

WORCESTER City will look to put back-to-back league defeats behind them when they welcome Boston United to Aggborough tonight (Tuesday).

The Blue and Whites will be buoyed by the news manager Carl Heeley and his assistant Matt Gardiner have signed new rolling long-term contracts with the club ahead of the encounter.

Defeats away at Stockport and AFC Fylde have seen City drop down to 13th in the Vanarama Conference North, but Heeley’s men got back to winning ways on Saturday in the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round with a 3-1 victory over Rugby Town.

Sean Geddes will look to add to his weekend brace as he joined Daniel Nti at the top of the scoring charts for Worcester, and victory could see them climb as high as 8th place.

Confidence will be high ahead of the encounter, with City’s 3-0 success on the final day of last season – including two spectacular Tyler Weir strikes – still fresh in the memory.

Tristian Dunkley (dislocated shoulder) and Wayne Thomas (back injury) are both definitely out of the game after picking up knocks in the FA Cup success, the former expected to be out for at least three to four weeks.

United, who missed out on the playoffs following their Aggborough defeat last season, are once again in the mix for the top five having won five, drawn two and lost three of their opening games.

The Pilgrims currently sit in 7th place and Dayle Southwell will be looking to add more goals to his tally having already racked up seven so far this campaign.

Manager Heeley said: “There’s no easy games, certainly in our league.

“Boston will provide a stern test this evening and if you look at the number of games we’ve played and their respective league position, we’ve played pretty much every team above us.

“It’s a tough start but you play everyone over the duration of the season and hopefully we can pick up some more points this evening which would be great.”

A live blog will be available for the game on www.worcesterobserver.co.uk online.
