City head north for Guiseley clash

WORCESTER City make the long trip to West Yorkshire today (Saturday) to take on early season table-toppers Guiseley in the Vanarama Conference North.

Carl Heeley’s side undertake the 320-mile round trip on the back of two successive draws and will be looking to pick up their first three points of the campaign.

An opening day 2-2 draw against Stalybridge Celtic, in which debutant Nick Wright bagged a brace, was followed up by a 0-0 stalemate at Oxford City last Tuesday (August 12).

In stark contrast, The Lions secured back-to-back wins after a 1-0 away success at Leamington was followed by a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Stockport County to see them lead the pack early on.

Mark Bower’s team will be hoping they fare better against the Blue and Whites this season after a 0-0 draw at Aggborough last November and then City came out on top in the reverse fixture when a solitary Aaron brown header secured a 1-0 win.

Centre-back Wayne Thomas, who missed the Oxford game through illness, could return for the visitors, with Mike Symons set to lead the line again, alongside Daniel Nti and Nick Wright in a three-man strike-force.

Daniel Udoh will be pushing for his first start in a Worcester shirt after impressing off the bench in both games.
