Bruzulier ready to step up for final challenge

JEAN-BAPTISTE Bruzulier is not afraid of the spotlight. In fact, the scrum-half has relished it this season, having led the club to the final of the Aviva A League and British & Irish Cup.

So when the 22-year-old was given the call to take on the number nine jersey for Worcester Warriors’ clash against London Scottish he was ready for the battle.

With Charlie Mulchrone out for the rest of the season and with Jonny Arr one game into a three-match ban, the responsibility fell on to Bruzulier.

Having captained the Cavaliers this season and lifted the British & Irish Cup at Doncaster Knights earlier this year, Bruzulier said he was confident he could help steer Warriors to promotion.

Warriors head to Bristol for the first leg of the final next Wednesday, before the return at Sixways seven days later.

“I have had quite a lot of pressure on me,” he said. “Charlie and Jonny have been outstanding this year, so I have been lucky to get my chance and I hope I have stepped up and done well for the team.

“It has been great to have been part of the A League and B&I Cup because if I had not played all year and then had to play in against Scottish I would have been stuck.

“But as I have had lots of game time and been successful in those competitions I was more positive for this game.”

Bruzulier said he also felt he has come a long way from the player who made his Greene King IPA Championship debut last November.

“I remember my first game against Plymouth,” he said. “I was not stressed or panicking at all and when I came on I made a lot of mistakes, so this time I went out there to enjoy it. I put everything behind me and concentrated on the game plan.

“When you have got some big names in the first team, like Lamb, GJ and JT to have to speak up in front of them is nerve-racking.

“But they let you and they give you that confidence to step up and speak.

“It has been an awesome season so far. I could not have asked for more — the A League final, British and Irish Cup winners and now this.

“I think we deserve to be in the final, so we need to be positive and hoping come out on top.”
