WORCESTERSHIRE picked up seven-wickets before lunch as they beat Kent by 125 runs in their Division Two County Championship clash at New Road.

Resuming on 51-3 on another beautiful sunny day, Jack Shantry trapped Ben Harmison (10) in front in the sixth over of the day to leave the visitors 57-4.

26-year-old Shantry then took his third wicket of the match, and ninth of the season, when he tempted Brendan Nash to edge behind for 28.

Gareth Andrew returned to the attack to remove the dangerous looking Darren Stevens, who had struck six boundaries in his 27, as Shaaiq Choudhry pulled off a stunning catch to leave Kent tottering on 94-6.

With the hosts sensing victory, Charles Morris found the perfect time to take his maiden first-class wicket by bowling England international, James Tredwell, for just one.

In his next over 21-year-old Morris removed Kent’s wicket-keeper, Sam Billings, lbw for 12 before dismissing Mitchell Claydon in the same fashion.

Kent’s number 11 and former Worcestershire bowler Doug Bollinger struck a couple of boundaries off Andrew before the seamer bowled him to seal the win and claim eight wickets in the match.

The result leaves Worcestershire top of the early Division Two table with 32 points from their opening two matches.
