Boss backs Williams for a bright future

CARL Heeley believes it will not be long before talented full back George Williams is plying his trade at a higher level than Conference North.

The Blue and Whites boss heaped praise on the players’ player and supporters’ player of the year after his latest impressive performance helped City secure a 2-1 victory over rivals Leamington and extend their unbeaten run to ten games.

Williams has played every minute of Worcester’s 21 games in all competitions this season and has hit a purple patch of late, notching five assists and a goal in the last ten outings.

Heeley, who revealed the former MK Dons apprentice was carrying a knock before the Brakes game, said: “You feel sorry for the wingers he plays against because he will just run for as long as you want him to run for.

“He is a good defender, but he is a major attacking threat as well.

“Willo is just getting better and better and for me it is only a matter of time before he plays at a higher level.”

Worcester’s manager also said he was happy not to see an FA Cup hangover in the Leamington victory, although he admitted it was never a worry with the group of players he has.

“The question I have been asked more this week is ‘Will your boys be up for it?’, ‘Will your boys have their head in the clouds?’,” Heeley added.

“Absolutely no chance.

“They are not that group of players, they are level-headed, down to earth guys who work hard and they know anything you achieve in this game you have to work thoroughly hard for every time you put a shirt on.

“That said, even if one or two slip through the net, they were never going to get away with it with the management team here.”

Worcester City are back in league action on Saturday at Harrogate Town.
