Barry's delight at new deal

GIANT forward Darren Barry has penned a new contract to remain at Sixways.

The 6ft 6in second row lock, who joined Warriors from Cornish Pirates in 2015, enjoyed an impressive debut campaign with the club, racking-up 19 appearances in the number five shirt.

Since making his Warriors’ debut in October’s victory over Northampton Saints on the opening night of the 2015/16 season, Barry went on to make his first appearance at Twickenham in November and missed just five league matches all season.

He had been a regular for the Pirates during his three seasons in Penzance after joining from Bristol Rugby, bagging 81 first team appearances. Barry was also part of the Championship XV which defeated Canada at Sixways in November 2014.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first season at Sixways and I truly believe we’re a club heading on the up,” said Barry.

“We’ve got everything in place to succeed as professional rugby players and I’m looking forward to being part of our new-look side for next season.”

Director of rugby Dean Ryan said: “Darren is one of our success stories having joined us for his first campaign in the Aviva Premiership.

“He was an outstanding performer for the Pirates in the Championship and has been able to transfer that talent to prove he can make the step-up to the top-flight of English rugby.

“We’ve been really impressed with his work at the set-piece and in the loose.

“We hope to continue helping him develop as a Premiership player over the coming seasons.”
