Backs coach Howarth leaves

WORCESTER Warriors are on the lookout for a new backs coach after Shane Howarth left the club by mutual consent.

Howarth joined Warriors in the summer of 2013 and has since helped create an exciting style of attacking back play at Sixways.

However, the former head coach of Auckland has decided to end his involvement with the club, who are currently second in the Greene King IPA Championship.

Howarth said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Worcester and will look back upon it with fond memories.”

Warriors’ director of rugby Dean Ryan added: “We would like to thank Shane for his contribution in developing our back play during these transitional years.

“He has played an integral part of what we are building here at Worcester and I will always be grateful for his support during his time at the club.”

Academy coach Sam Vesty, who has been working with the backs during the Aviva A League and British & Irish Cup campaigns, is likely to temporarily fill the void left by Howarth.

Ryan could also end speculation linking Vesty with a return to his former club Leicester Tigers next season by offering him the backs coaching role.
