Worcester Show countdown begins

Worcester Editorial 28th Jul, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

THE COUNTDOWN has begun to next month’s biggest ever Worcester Show.

Now in its ninth successive year, the popular annual event comes to Gheluvelt Riverside Park in Barbourne on Sunday, August 17 with this year set to be better than ever.

The action-packed day will see everything from music, dancing and cookery demonstrations to children’s rides, craft stalls and delicious food from around the world.

There are also more than a hundred classes ranging from flowers and floral decorations to handicrafts and photography with the event billed as a mecca for the green-fingered and everyone with creative talent.

Children can take part in a fancy dress competition by dressing up as either a flower fairy or a scarecrow and there is plenty more on offer for young visitors including pony rides, owls, fairground rides and a bouncy castle.

Visitors are also being encouraged to cycle to and from the event with a secure bike lock area located near to the Pump House Cafe.

BBC Hereford and Worcester’s Andrew Marston will host the day with renowned gardening presenters Reg Moule and Mike George on hand for a Gardeners’ Question Time.

This year, eight societies will be at the Show – including the North Worcestershire Fuschia Society; South Worcester Bonsai Society, Worcester Bee Keepers, the Worcester Cactus Society and for the first time, the Worcestershire Beaders Association and the Worcestershire Embroidery Guild.

Michelle Newell from Worcester City Council is helping to organise the event.

“The Worcester Show will be a fantastic fun day out for the whole family,” she said.

“As well as showcasing the amazing creativity of Worcester residents, there will be music, dancing, cookery demonstrations, children’s rides, crafts stalls and delicious food for all to enjoy.”
