WORCESTER has been named the safest city in England, according to a new survey.
Thousands of people in cities across the UK were asked to rate how safe they felt their hometown was on a scale of one to ten, with one being the worst possible score.
The Faithful City scored 7.63 – the highest out of any English city.
The Unbroken Britain survey, carried out by Provident Personal Credit, also ranked Worcester as third in the UK for being welcoming, friendly, and also for its high perceived levels of trust and happiness.
Since the last survey which was carried out six months ago, Worcester’s rating for friendliness has climbed by five per cent, whilst there was no change in city resident’s views on area upkeep or trust.
Coun Jabba Riaz, Cabinet Member for Clean, Green and Leisure Services, said: “Worcester is a fantastic city to live, work and study in, and it’s great to see some national recognition for this.
“Community safety and ensuring Worcester remains attractive are top priorities for the City Council, and we work hard to achieve the high standards reflected in this survey.
“I’d like to thank local residents, the police and all our enforcement partners for their vital role in keeping the city clean, safe and welcoming.”
