Trust make plea to help in Nepal

Worcester Editorial 23rd May, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

A TEAM of Worcester well wishers are appealing for help to support those who were affected by the Nepal earthquake.

Kathmandu Children’s Trust are based in Worcester and have been running a project to improve education and accommodation for children in the country since 2011.

The recent earthquake has seen up to 200,000 homes destroyed and another 200,000 properties damaged.

The charity has decided to direct any new donation to local relief and rebuilding efforts, using known local churches and agencies that they have regular contact with.

Anthony Goodman, trustee and honorary treasurer, of Kathmandu Children’s Trust, said: “We know many local people in Nepal actively working to provide relief. It’s one of the poorest countries in the world and have now suffered the worst earthquake for 80 years.

“Relatively in this country we are very fortunate and well provided for. The amazing thing is that a monthly donation over the next couple of years can make a real difference.

“A one off gift of £35 might provide tin sheet for a temporarily lockable shelter so a rural family can work again in the fields. £350 may provide the materials for a house to be repaired.

“What we promise is that every pound donated will go directly yo local organisation helping people on the ground in Nepal.”
