Teenager sexually assaulted in city centre attack

Worcester Editorial 14th Apr, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

A TEENAGE woman was sexually assaulted in a city centre street after leaving a nightclub.

The victim left Velvet Lounge Nightclub, in Angel Place, about 1.55am on Friday (April 11) and was walking home through The Butts, Farrier Street and Cherry Tree Walk when she noticed a man was following her.

As the woman approached the railway arches at the junction with Infirmary Walk the man grabbed her by the hand, before he put his arms round her and lifted her up, which caused her to fall on the ground.

He climbed on top of her, sexually assaulted her and attempted to kiss her, but stopped and ran off towards Farrier Street as she was struggling and shouting.

The man is described as having a dark complexion, possibly Asian or Mediterranean, 18 to 20-years-old, about 5ft 5ins, medium build, shaved black hair, a dark blue or purple collared t-shirt and dark trousers.

Det Sgt David Hall said: “Such stranger attacks are rare but obviously extremely worrying and we have a team of detectives working on the investigation.

“Additional uniformed patrols will be in the area for the coming days to reassure local residents.

“Thankfully, the young woman’s actions seem to have deterred the man, but she has been left very distressed and we are concerned about how much worse this assault could have been.”

Police urge anyone who was in the area between 1.45am and 2.15am to contact them immediately on the non-emergency number 101 or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
