Teen kicked out after being hurt

A TEENAGER kicked a police officer in the chest and racially abused another woman after she was assaulted in the city centre, a court has heard.

The New Years Day fracas happened about 3.35am in Angel Place when Shannon Taylor was walking past Chicks takeaway and was punched and knocked to the ground, Worcester Magistrates Court heard last Friday (January 16).

Taylor, of Barnes Way, was then approached by other members of the group who tried to attack her while her boyfriend sheltered over to protect her.

At this point the 19-year-old started shouting racist abuse at one of the women and kicked her legs out to try and defend herself, but subsequently connected with PC Hart’s chest, who had attended the scene to break the fight up.

Defending solicitor Sam Lamsdale said: “What happened, according to her, is she was walking past Chicks when a girl she had never seen in her life jumped up and swung a punch on to her head and caused her to immediately fall on the floor.

“She accepts she had had a bit to drink but she was angered and upset for being hit by someone for no apparent reason.

“She was initially the victim but unfortunately because she was so angry and upset she did make racist comments to the other girl and because she was kicking out her legs trying to get the other group away it is unfortunate her foot kicks the officer in the chest.”

Taylor was slapped with a 12-month community order with 12 months supervision and an eight-week curfew from 9pm to 7am after she pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment and assaulting a constable.

District Judge Nigel Cadbury said: “This was an unpleasant incident but I accept on the basis of what I have heard something obviously did happen before the police arrived on this occasion.”

She was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
