STAFF at a Worcester opticians have been making spectacles of themselves throughout Armed Forces Week to raise funds for Blind Veterans UK.

Specsavers has been celebrating 100 years of the charity’s work helping blind ex-service men and women, by fund-raising in the store from Monday (June 22) to Sunday (June 28).

Staff have been encouraging customers to take a selfie using the props provided, for a small donation to the charity who offer support, training and rehabilitation to blind and visually impaired ex-Service men and women.

Alan Richards, store director, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Blind Veterans UK this year and welcome customers to help us fund-raise throughout the week.

“The charity is currently supporting more than 4,000 blind veterans and with our help, they hope to reach their target of recruiting 700 new beneficiaries in the coming year.”

Nick Caplin, chief executive of Blind Veterans UK, said: “We hope that the partnership with Specsavers in Worcester will help us to continue to raise awareness and support for the life changing work of the charity in our centenary year.”
