A GROUP of opticians from Worcester went the extra mile for Cancer Research UK and raised more than £2,000 when they took part in Race for Life.

The 12-strong team from the Broad Street Specsavers store raised money through family, friends and colleagues, as well as enticing customers and passers-by to sample their best baking skills with various cake sales to add to their fundraising total.

Faye Conway, Hana Pugh, Mandy Barbour, Paige Dennis, Kerstie Osborne, Hannah Hadley, Rhiannon Haddock, Kate Stolton, Annabel Bird, Sophie Hunt, Emily Wood and Roisin Connolly aimed to raise £500 through their efforts but were delighted to exceed expectations, with the total coming in at £2,085.

Store director Alan Richards said: “Cancer is something that affects so many of us, so we are delighted that the girls worked so hard to raise a great amount of money for Cancer Research UK.”
