AN ELECTRICITY provider is adding a spark to a children’s charity’s fund-raising event.

Western Power Distribution have entered a team into the Acorns Children’s Hospice’s Triple Run and will also be sponsoring the annual event.

The charity’s tenth run will take place on Sunday, June 21.

Ian Alcock, Helen Alcock and Ann Odell will represent the company, along with about 1,000 other runners, at the event at the Three Counties Showgrounds in Malvern.

The course will include the 1km Fun Run, a 5km Woodland Trail and the Malvern Half Marathon. They are designed to encourage people of any age and fitness level to join in.

In the last decade, more 10,000 people have taken part in the event, helping to raise more than £350,000 to go towards the care and support the charity gives to children suffering from life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Pete Broughton, Worcester city team manager for Western Power Distribution, said: “Our sponsorship will help towards covering costs, so that all money raised can go towards the vital work the charity does. The staff are really looking forward to the event with some good healthy competition. We’re confident that this year’s Triple Run will be bigger and better than ever before.”

Shujea Khatun, major events officer at Acorns, said: “We’re delighted Western Power Distribution is not only sponsoring the Triple Run but has also entered a team and I wish them well with the training.

“Events like Triple Run are essential for Acorns as we rely on voluntary fund-raising, including sponsorship from participants, for the majority of our income and this year is extra special as the event shares its tenth birthday with our Three Counties hospice.”

Since opening its doors in March 2005, the hospice has been a vital help to 465 families.
