CHILDREN in Dines Green were rocking, rotating, swinging and sliding as they tested out their new play equipment for the first time.

Year Five pupils from Dines Green Primary School were among the first to try out the £50,000 playground.

It has been made possible thanks to money from the developers working on the transformation of the former Drakes Drum and Gresham Road sites.

The play area, which includes a wide range of toddler and junior equipment, is also one of a number in Worcester which been refurbished by Worcester City Council.

Steve Gough, headteacher at Dines Green Primary School, said: “I think it is wonderful to see something that has been needed for so long come to fruition.

I’m really pleased for families in the area, and would like to thank everyone who has worked so hard behind the scenes to make this happen.”

Ronkswood Community Centre has also benefited from a £58,337 investment from the council as a new group swing, rotating swing and space climbing net was installed at the nearby play area in June.

The old toddler equipment has been replaced at the Oaklands Play Area, which was re-opened this week, and a new climbing frame has been put up at the Horizon Community Centre.

Youngsters have been enjoying a new group swing at Howard Road play area in Ronkswood, while Cripplegate Park has also undergone a refurbishment. The damaged trampoline has been replaced, the play house has been repaired, surfacing has been replaced and the gate has been mended.
