THE MAYOR of Worcester officially re-opened a city centre hospice shop following a major makeover.
Coun Alan Amos was joined by staff, volunteers and supporters of Acorn’s Children’s Hospice when he cut the ribbon to mark a new dawn at the charity’s Mealcheapen Street shop last Wednesday (September 10).
The store has been given a new-look front with a different colour scheme as well as a change in interior design and layout.
Coun Amos: “I am delighted to have been invited to open the new look shop and am very proud and honoured to be associated with Acorns.
“The charity does incredible work and this is because of its incredible people.
“It does this while relying on voluntary donations and fund-raising for most of its income and we can see the great benefit of this at the Worcester hospice just a few miles away.”
Acorns is embarking on a programme to refurbish its shops to update them in keeping with the charity retail market.
Store manager Abigail Day said: “We’ve been extremely well supported by the people of Worcester and hope they will like our new look.
“We rely on the community for donations and volunteering and we’d love to hear from anyone who thinks they can help us.”
Kevin Ives, head of retail for the hospice, added: “We have to keep our retail network competitive and are carefully investing money back into our shops to make them inviting places to shop.”
