Maternity unit gets UNICEF boost

PARENTS-TO-BE in Worcester are in good hands after the maternity unit at Worcestershire Royal Hospital was internationally recognised for the support it gives to mothers and babies.

After the maternity unit was awarded ‘Baby Friendly’ accreditation, new city parents are now benefiting from receiving the best information on feeding their babies and building relationships with them.

Its the second time Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has been accredited by UNICEF’s Baby Friendly project, which is designed to support breastfeeding and parent infant relationships by working to provide the best care for mothers and babies.

Baby friendly facilities provide parents with the best possible care to build close and loving relationships with their baby and advice on how to support health and development.

The Trust first achieved accreditation in 2011 and has since kept high standards, which is a testament to the team’s hard work to ensure the most accurate information is given to mothers and families.

Becky Davenport, specialist midwife and infant feeding adviser at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, said: “All of the maternity team work hard to make sure the mums-to-be have all the information and support they need.

“We’re so pleased to achieve this recognition once again. We were delighted to achieve our first full accreditation in 2011 and are thrilled to be told we have maintained these high standards ever since.”
