Marathon challenge raises cash for charity

A KIND-HEARTED student is celebrating after completing four marathons in four days to raise funds for a children’s charity.

Alister Brown, a business student at the University of Worcester, recently took on the gruelling challenge of covering 105 miles in just 96 hours in aid of Variety, a charity which helps disabled and disadvantaged children.

The 24-year-old, of Bath Road, managed to raise an impressive £1,800 towards the good cause, which the determined runner hopes will keep on rising to cross the finish line of his £2,000 target.

Mr Brown has just completed a masters in business administration, which he studied for part-time while working at Brierley Hill based Alloy Wire International.

“The company I work for has done a lot of charity work and this particular charity approached us and asked if there was anything we would like to get involved in,” said Alister.

“I looked at the list of events put forward and thought they all seemed too sane. I wanted to do something a bit more wild and push myself to the limit as it was for charity.

“So I looked online and found the Quadrathon Challenge which is described as Ireland’s most unique four day event, covering 105 miles along the Wild Atlantic Way.

“It was brilliant, I loved it. I don’t know how I did it, it just kind of happened. I had so much support and I think that just carried me along,” he added.
