A MAN who bit a police officer at Worcester Police Station has been jailed for almost four months.
Gareth Forsyth of Tunnel Hill was arrested on suspicion of breaching his bail conditions on Wednesday (October 15).
While being booked into the Worcester Custody Unit, the 34-year-old became threatening, abusive and violent towards staff before biting one of the custody sergeants causing a significant wound to his hand.
Forsythe was then charged with assaulting a constable in the execution of their duty and breaching his CRASBO condition, of being prohibited from using foul or abusive language or gestures, or acting in a threatening, intimidating or aggressive manner towards anyone not of the same household as himself.
Yesterday (Thursday) Forsyth, who previously lived in Malvern, appeared before Kidderminster Magistrates Court and was sentenced to 15 weeks in prison for the assault and 15 weeks in prison for the breach of his CRASBO, to run concurrently.
Insp John McKay, of Worcester Custody Unit, said: “Our staff have the right to work in a safe environment free from physical and verbal abuse. We will prosecute in order to protect the rights of our staff.
“I am pleased with the court’s swift and appropriate response in this case. Forsythe now has three months and three weeks to reflect on his behaviour whilst in prison.”
