Lane closures in force on A449 for further week

MOTORISTS are being warned about lane closures on A449 while surface dressing gets underway.

From Monday (July 6) work will be carried out on the road between Worcester and Hartlebury for the next fortnight.

Drivers are being thanked for their patience in advance by Worcestershire Highways for their patience with the surface dressing between the Blackpole turning and Claines roundabout.

One lane will be coned off one at a time and a convoy system will be in operation to slow down traffic. Once the surface dressing has taken place the lanes will remain closed for a further three to four days for associated works, such as line painting, to take place.

Coun John Smith, county council cabinet member for highways, said: “Whilst we recognise that roadworks can be frustrating, we would like to thanks motorists in advance for their patience.

“There is never an ideal time to carry out works like this on such a key route but it is essential that we get it completed to improve things for everyone using the road in the long run.”

This follows on from resurfacing that was carried out in February and will effect Junction 6 of the M5 and the Black Bridge turning at Hartlebury. This double dressing is hopes to extend the roads life by up to ten years, avoiding the need for more extensive and expensive repairs.

The surface dressing will be carried out at night to minimise disruption but drivers are being asked to stick to temporary 20mph speed limit.
