A TEAM of intrepid walkers from Worcester are in training to take on a Snowdon Challenge with a difference.

On September 24, Russ Walker from Worcester, will be joined by 40 friends and family to hike up and down Snowdon before cycling a 35km route around the mountain and then canoeing 4km across local lake Llyn Padarn.

The group are hoping to raise at least £5,000 for St Richard’s Hospice.

Russ said: “In April my Dad, Derek Walker, lost his four-year war against cancer and I can honestly say that nothing could have prepared us for how this would affect our family.

“Dad was a true gentleman, he never complained throughout his treatment, lived his life to the absolute fullest for as long as he possibly could and remained a true and caring friend to me to the very end. We all miss him terribly.

“Trying to make sense of this type of loss is futile but we decided we needed a goal to focus our minds – the Snowdon Challenge, an event to raise money as a way to express our gratitude for all the help and support these fantastic charities have provided.

“My Dad spent the final few weeks of his life at St Richard’s and the nurses and staff there are nothing short of amazing.”
