Hylton Road closure postponed

Worcester Editorial 21st Jan, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

THE PLANNED closure of one of the city’s busiest roads tomorrow (Thursday) to test new flood pumps has been postponed.

Concerned business owners contacted the area’s councillor, Coun Richard Udall, and said they feared they would lose a day’s trading after less than a week’s notice.

The work, set to be carried out by the Environment Agency, Severn Trent Water and Worcestershire County Council, will now take place on Sunday, February 8.

Coun Udall said: “I was concerned for local businesses, we are supposed to be keeping the county open for business, this closure was being planned at the wrong time and on the wrong day.

“I would like to thank the Environment Agency for listening to local concerns and agreeing to postpone the work to a more appropriate time.

“Clearly the new pumps and equipment need to be tested, but it really was wrong to impose this on small business on a day when it would lose them trade.

“I hope that in future they will realise that the timing of such work is just as important as the work itself, business owners do not need any more pressures and problems if they can be avoided, so well done everybody, common sense prevailed and problem averted.”
