SOME of the city’s most deserving people are set to be honoured by the Mayor of Worcester.

Coun Alan Amos has decided to transform next month’s Mayor’s Charity Dinner into the first ever Best of Worcester Community Awards Ceremony to celebrate everything good about the Faithful City.

More than 160 people have been nominated for six different categories and judges have now drawn up a shortlist ahead of the event on Friday, March 20 at the Guildhall.

The Black Tie evening, which is being supported by the Rotary Club of Worcester, will feature a drinks reception with music by up-and-coming star Will Thompson-Brant, a two-course dinner in the grand setting of the Assembly Room followed by live music and dancing until midnight.

There will also be an auction with gifts donated by local businesses, raffles and prizes and caricaturist, Mickey Wright, to capture and elongate all those facial features.

The main highlight of the evening will be the awards ceremony which will feature a high-tech video commentary featuring those shortlisted for the top positions.

Coun Amos said he was overwhelmed by the number of nominations received.

“It was extremely difficult to draw up the shortlists as literally every nomination was worthwhile and had merit,” he said.

“In that sense, every one who was nominated was in reality a winner.

“So my personal thanks to everyone who took the time and trouble to send in a nomination. Each one was carefully and seriously considered.”

Proceeds will be split between the Rotary Club of Worcester and the Mayor’s charities.

Tickets for the event, which starts at 6.45pm, cost £50 and can be bought from the Civic Office in the Guildhall, by calling 01905 722001 or by e-mailing [email protected]
