The Holdings cattery at Broomhall is now complete

THE cattery at the RSPCA’s new rescue and rehoming centre outside Worcester is finally complete.

Run by the charity’s Worcester and Mid Worcestershire branch and situated in a rural spot outside the city, The Holdings cattery at Broomhall has 20 large pens ready for the cats and kittens to move in.

The five acre complex will open to the public on October 17 and, with more funding, will incorporate a spacious kennel block, vet rooms, a grooming room and will eventually accommodate dogs, rabbits and small animals.

The light and airy pens each has its own thermostat with a heater and fan to get the required temperature as well as shelves at the back and side of the pens, where the cats can look out and see what’s going on outside.

Trustee, Geraldine Haynes, said: “It is all finished, we have cat food and cat litter at the ready.

There are 17 cats in private boarding and three at the vets waiting to be moved in.

“We think our rescue cats will love their new pens. They deserve the best conditions possible while they’re in our care and they will certainly get it.

“We have cats of all ages who all deserve a good home. Most of them have had a rough life and the majority have been rescued from neglect or abuse.

“Some of the cats have been found in the streets or after an accident but the owners have never come forward. They deserve the best care and they will get it in this new cattery.”

Needing to be manned 24 hours a day, the branch is recruiting an Animal Centre Manager and Animal Care Assistants as well as volunteers to help with fundraising and looking after the animals.

She said: “We would welcome volunteers who would like to be part of this exciting new project to help animals most in need from the Worcester, Malvern, Upton, Pershore, Droitwich, Redditch and Bromsgrove areas.

“We should be delighted to hear from anyone who is interested in making a donation to this much needed project or would like to sponsor a cat each month.”
