A DESIGN design and manufacturing company from Worcester has celebrated winning a Queen’s Award for Innovation, the UK’s highest accolade for business success.

Employees at Spetchley-based firm Gtech celebrated their success with Champagne and cake.

The Award for Innovation is in recognition of the strong growth the company has enjoyed since 2012 when it launched its high performance, lightweight and cordless vacuum cleaner, AirRam.

Thanks to the success of the AirRam, Gtech has seen its turnover rocket from £4million in 2011 to a staggering £47million in 2014.

And the success is expected to continue in 2015 with Gtech on course to post a turnover of around £70million this year.

Overseas sales have grown by more than 53 per cent in the past three years.

“We feel very honoured to receive a Queen’s Award,” said Gtech’s founder and CEO, Nick Grey.

“Our design and engineering team set out to change the way people vacuum their homes for ever when we designed the Gtech AirRam, and this is a fantastic reward for that effort.

“Gtech has grown from 20 to 65 employees in the last two years and the support they give the management team and I is second to none.

“Their dedication in designing high performance, cordless products and providing outstanding customer service makes me very proud.

“We will enjoy this moment and continue to work hard to honour the award for both our company and customers.”

The Gtech AirRam was developed by Mr Grey and his team in Spetchley.

Gtech engineers worked through the fundamental challenges of cleaning a modern home.

Their original approach took two years and a £1million investment in research and development to create the cordless freedom, unique design and patented technology that has proven extremely popular with consumers of all ages.

Winners of The Queen’s Awards can expect an invitation to attend a special reception at Buckingham Palace. They can also use The Queen’s Award Emblem in advertising, marketing and on packaging for a period of five years as a symbol of their quality and success.

The awards are made annually by HM The Queen, and are only given for the highest levels of excellence demonstrated in each category.
