Grant boost for play area

A LONG-AWAITED revamp of a city charity’s soft-play area has finally been completed.

The upgrades to Worcester Snoezelen’s The Zone, on Turnpike Close, were made possible when they won £50,000 from the National Lottery last November last year.

More than 5,000 people voted for them to scoop the cash pot and the new state-of-the-art area is designed for people with disabilities as part of the sensory rooms and activities the charity provides.

A ball pit with sensory stimulating features, an overhead hoisting design to make it more accessible to those with limited mobility, inbuilt speakers, light effects, a padded climbing frame and a slide have all been installed.

Sean Walsh, Snoezelen marketing co-ordinator, said: “We would especially like tot hanks everyone who took the time to vote for Snoezelen, the Zone really will benefit hundreds of people, both physically and mentally, with disabilities from Worcestershire and the neighbouring counties.

“Its interactive design promotes and encourages both psychological and physical health benefits.

“Development projects like The Zone are so important for Snoezelen because they allow us to deliver on our promise to offer our clients the very best standard of facilities and services.”

During the two week closure to allow work to be carried out, the charity also renovated one of its multi-sensory rooms to include an interactive floor projector.

The charity offers a variety of one to one or group sessions to people with physical and learning disabilities, including arts classes, swimming pool activities, sensory rooms, music sessions and fitness classes.
