Flood-hit bar and restaurant set to merge

A RIVERSIDE bar in Worcester is set to re-open next month after its new owner revealed plans to merge with a neighbouring restaurant.

Brown’s Wine Bar, which is situated on Quay Street, has been closed since the city was devastated by floods in February.

But it is set to receive a new lease of life under Vanessa Pinches, who took over the building from former owners Brian Hulme and Terry Thompson last month.

Work is currently underway to transform Brown’s into a cocktail and wine bar, which would run alongside Quay Restaurant.

An application has been submitted for a new licence, which if approved by Worcester City Council could see the two buildings re-named Browns@TheQuay.

Mrs Pinches told The Observer the newly-merged bar and restaurant would be up and running in mid-November and would help to revitalise the area.

“We want to make the water front something special and I think this will give the city a big boost,” she said. “At the moment in Worcester there a lot of restaurants, which don’t have a big bar space, so it will be nice to have somewhere where you can relax before and after your meal.”

Browns@TheQuay would feature a dining area for 120 people as well as outdoor seating for 48 customers, while Mrs Pinches said she was also considering creating 12 or 16 “boutique” hotel rooms.

Due to its position near the River Severn, the formerly-known Brown’s Restaurant has flooded on numerous occasions. But Mrs Pinches said she confident the bar, which would be able to hold up to 200 people, would be successful.

“It is a great location and that is why we are willing to put a lot of effort into it,” he said. “It is hard when the floods hit, but we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

“This year was the highest I have seen it and we managed to keep the water at a good level at the Quay by using a pumping system, which helped us to open up not long after and we will be taking that to Browns.”
