First Foodie fest set for tasty weekend

Worcester Editorial 30th Jul, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

PEOPLE who are crazy about cakes, barmy about beer and mad about marmalade are in for a feast this weekend when the city hosts its first food and drink festival.

Hundreds of people are expected to flock to Worcester for the Foodie Festival which takes place on Saturday (August 2) and Sunday (August 3).

More than 30 stalls offering a variety of food and drink samplings will pack the city’s streets, while celebrity chefs Rosemary Shrager and Rachel Green will be running free demonstrations on the main stage in the High Street.

Businesses, including Coffee Dough, Bill’s restaurant, the Cafe at Debenhams and Cafe Zest at House of Fraser will be holding wine beer and cider tasting sessions.

Caroline Gregory, owner of kitchenware specialist Cookmate based in Broad Street, which will be one of the businesses taking part, said: “The food and drink on offer in Worcester has really improved over the last few years and the city should celebrate this fact so we jumped at the chance to be involved with the knife skills workshop and hope that many people come in and take part.”

There will also be live music and street entertainment, while children will be able to bake scones and rainbow biscuits or create fun and exciting food experiments at the dedicated kids cookery area outside the Guildhall.

Nadja von Dahlen, of Worcester BID, which is organising the event, added: “We have been delighted with the interest already generated by the public and the various types of stallholders who want to get involved.

“We want people to venture into our fantastic city centre food and drink outlets whilst at the event and leave the cooking and washing up to someone else.

“It should be a great day for anyone who enjoys good food and drink.”
