FUND-RAISERS at a children’s hospice were delighted by the support they received when they opened their doors for a charity fête raising £5,000.

The event marked Acorns Children’s Hospice’s ten year anniversary and was officially opened by luxury wedding organiser Jackie Llewelyn-Bowen, wife of TV personality and homestyle consultant Laurence.

The fête took place in the hospice’s gardens on bath Road last Saturday (May 2) and saw crowds test their skills at traditional games like Splat the Rat, Beat the buzzer and Skittles.

The Malvern Hills Brass Band provided the music for the day while people enjoyed the bouncy castle, face painting, cake, crafts, plants and jewellery stalls.

Maddie Fitzgerald, community fund-raising manager at Acorns Children’s Hospice, said: “It was a fantastic and busy afternoon with a brilliant atmosphere.

“We were so pleased to see supporters, donors, Acorns families, neighbours to the hospice and people from across the Three Counties showing their support.

“Everyone appreciated the chance to see the hospice first hand and learn more about our work and the vital role the community plays in helping us to continue that.”

Funds raised at the fête will help towards the charity’s £50,000 target for this year, which will go to maintenance and upgrading the hospice’s gardens which form part of the care they provide for children with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses.

Since opening its doors on 14th March 2005, Acorns for the Three Counties has provided specialist palliative care and support for 465 life-limited and life-threatened children and their families across Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.
