MEN AND boys from around the city rallied together to raise money for prostate cancer.

Worcester Racecourse hosted the Sanlam Go Dad Run where hundreds turned up to support Prostate Cancer UK.

They were joined by three sporting legends, Olympic gold medallist and 100m world record holders Donovan Bailey, World European and commonwealth champion Derek Redmond, and the founder of the 5K event, multiple world, Olympic, European and Commonwealth medallist, Colin Jackson.

He created the event after two of his uncles developed prostate cancer and only one survived.

Colin said: “It was another great Sanlam Go Dad Run 5K and I really want to thank my friends and fellow ambassadors, Donovan Bailey and Derek Redmond for their support. Huge thanks must also go to all our partners and sponsors Sanlam, Big Yellow Self Storage and PUMA who helped put the event together, and, of course, to all the men and boys who signed up and ran today at Worcester Racecourse.

“It was genuinely exciting to see and share their enthusiasm and also to see all the guys talking to each other.

“As well as raising money for Prostate Cancer UK the main reason I created Go Dad Run was to get men thinking about their health and discussing it, so that box was most definitely ticked today.”

The Worcester race was the second of six Sanlam Go Dad Runs being held throughout the country.

Donovan is a big supporter of the project having lost an uncle and grandfather to prostate cancer.

He said: “This event was awesome and is something that has definitely been missing from the charity sporting calendar.

“The guys look great in their big blue pants and the atmosphere was simply amazing.”
