City set to look at new ideas for home

Worcester Editorial 27th Aug, 2016 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

SEVERAL sites which could provide a new home for Worcester City were examined during the latest meeting of the working party set up to bring the Blue and Whites home.

Although exact details are being kept under wraps, a number of new ideas emerged during the meeting. These will be examined in more detail before group meets again next month.

Worcester City Football Club is currently using Bromsgrove Sporting’s ground for home matches, having moved out of its old home at St George’s Lane in 2013.

The working party was established following the arrival of the new Labour leadership at Worcester City Council.

City Council Managing Director Sheena Ramsey, is chairing the working party, which includes councillors alongside representatives of the Football Club’s management board and its Supporters’ Trust.

City vice chairman Colin Layland, Mark Newell from the Football Club’s Supporters’ Trust joined City Council leader Coun Adrian Gregson and Green Party Coun Louis Stephen for the latest meeting.

Coun Gregson said: “I’m pleased that steady progress is being made on the important issue of bring Worcester City Football Club home.

“The will and determination are present on all sides to ensure this happens,” he added.

The group will not discuss the current planning application by the Football Club and the Supporters Trust for a new stadium at Perdiswell but this will still be considered as an option, dependent on the outcome of the planning application.

The application will need to be determined on its own merits and is expected to go to the authority’s Planning Committee later this year.
