A CITY school continues to make its mark as it scooped a prestigious award for its inspirational teaching of history.

Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College’s history department received the Prince’s Teacher Institute (PTI) Mark for the work it carried out in 2013/2014.

Simon Jessop, history teacher, said: “This has been achieved through increasing the quality of the curriculum in history by introducing the use of new technologies, engaging topics, developing project based homework tasks to create challenge and independent learning.

“We have also introduced more cross-curricular work with other departments in the college.”

To achieve the PTI Mark, departments have to demonstrate they have increased the challenge within their subject curriculum, while developing their staffs own specialist subject knowledge.

Principal Sean Devlin said: “We are delighted to have been awarded the PTI Mark for our history department’s innovative work and will be proud to carry the Mark on our stationery and website as evidence to inspirational teaching.”
