STAFF and students at a Worcester school have cycled the height of Mount Everest to raise £225 for the victims of the Nepal earthquake.

Bishop Perowne C of E College held the fund-raising day where they set up three spin bikes in their reception to complete the 29,000 feet challenge for the Nepal Earthquake Disaster appeal.

The cyclists changed every 20 minutes to keep all the bikes in action for the entire day.

The schools new headteacher, mark Pollard, did his part pedalling his share of the challenge while students shook their charity buckets to collect donations. The participants also gave £1 each to the cause to get the wheels in motion.

Lorraine Stevens, the teacher who organised the event, said: “We felt it was really important to raise money for Nepal, especially as former colleague Trish Butler, who was the head of English, has been teaching in Nepal for a few years now.

“Our students always rise to the challenge and will be fully supportive.”
