Big total is aim of charity race day for Severn Valley

ORGANISERS of a Charity Race Day are hoping to raise more than £30,000 for the Severn Valley Railway.

The event, which will be held at Worcester Racecourse on Wednesday (June 22) will see a number of Worcestershire companies, including MFG solicitors, Allelys Heavy Haulage, and Houghton Edwards investment management, all adding their support on the day.

From each ticket sold, £3 will be donated to the Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust and will go towards providing funding for vital projects such as the Heritage Skills Training Academy.

Shelagh Paterson, Director of Development, explained the importance of the Trust’s work: “The day-to-day income the Severn Valley Railway receives from tickets sales covers every day running costs, but we’re always thinking to the future. We need to raise more to keep our ever–ageing locomotives and carriages in good order, and to carry out vital infrastructure work along the 16-mile line.

“Also, the Trust is the major funder for the Heritage Skills Training Academy, in which nine young people are currently apprenticed, learning the highly specialised skills needed to keep the Railway running.

“Events such as the charity race day form an important part of our fundraising activities, and we hope to see as many people as possible at the course, for what promises to be a hugely enjoyable afternoon.”

Entry tickets to the racecourse are priced from £9, and the first race is at 2.20pm. Making a donation by texting ‘SVRC00’ and the £ amount to 70070.
