Archbishop to visit the county

Worcester Editorial 27th Jul, 2016 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

WORCESTER residents will have the chance to meet the Archbishop of Canterbury when he arrives in the county for a three-day visit.

Archbishop Justin Welby will be visiting the Diocese of Worcester from Friday, October 7 to Sunday, October 9, to support and encourage members of the public and share his own faith journey.

On the Friday, Archbishop Justin will be at University of Worcester Arena talking religion and current affairs with BBC journalist Jeremy Vine, where audience members will have the chance to ask questions and there will be a performance from a choir put together from city church schools.

He will then meet children from schools across the county at Worcester Cathedral, where they will be able to put their own questions to him as well as taking part in activities around faith and prayer.

On Saturday, there will be a breakfast event for business leaders followed by a ‘retreat in daily life’ service at the cathedral for the clergy and lay ministers of the Diocese, before Archbishop Justin heads to Dudley on the Sunday.

The Bishop of Dudley, Graham Usher said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to have Archbishop Justin with us for these three days. We can show him the great work being done by our churches in their local communities.

“Through the public events, we hope as many people as possible will get a chance to see and interact with him. It’s going to be a busy three days, but will be lots of fun.”

Tickets cost £5 for the University of Worcester Arena event, which starts at 7pm.
